My Gap

An interactive ebook design that moves away from the traditional book metaphor and takes advantage of the digital platform to tell both linear and non-linear narratives.

This gap addresses all of the project criteria. I am an avid reader and writer, so I have experience with various ebook platforms. I have a number of people that are interested in what I design for this class, and I have thought about this problem for a while and want to use this class as motivation to get my ideas more fully developed. While the coding and finished product of this design may not be feasible within the time frame of this course, I think that good progress can be made over the next 8 weeks.

Assignment 1.2 - Find the Gap

My ten gaps:

  1. An interactive ebook design that moves away from the traditional book metaphor and takes advantage of the digital platform to tell both linear and non-linear narratives
  2. A more efficient way of collecting and storing cans for recycling
  3. An easier way to embed video into web pages for people who do not want to work with HTML
  4. A solution to track car keys and remotes so they don't get lost
  5. A solution to simplify and automate the course proposal process at work
  6. A solution to help kids organize their homework and chores
  7. A solution to handle multiple chargers for portable devices
  8. A device that makes it easy to turn a smart phone into a paper scanner
  9. A solution to replace florescent lights with LEDs to make light seem more diffused
  10. A system to organize a large home library

Assignment 1.1 - Good Design

IKEA Bevara Package Sealers

These simple package sealers have changed how we store food in our household. Prior to discovering them, we kept an assortment of twist-ties and binder clips to keep non-sealable  bags closed, which still resulted in spoilage. These clips are re-usable and last a long time.
